Is there any way to create a bootable cd from the MS downloaded "create
floppy boot disks" and then use it instead of the floppies?

Your Windows XP CD ROM is already bootable

And the answer to your question is 'no' since the Windows XP CD is bootable.
The floppy disk boot option is only there for persons who's PC cannot boot
from a CD.

The six boot floppies just take you through the initial setup process
exactly the same as the process that runs from the CD.
So what sort of boot CD are you trying to make ? One that does the same job
as the boot floppies?- that would be the Windows XP CD ROM.

Are you actually asking if you can make an entire Windows XP image that
resides on a CD ROM and is bootable as the OS of a machine ? If so no.
We have a product that volume licensed customers have access to to boot an
Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) so they can prepare a
machine for deployment of Windows XP.

please provide more information as to what you are trying to do with your
"boot CD".

All the tools necessary to repair a Windows XP installation are already on
and accessible by booting from the CD ROM.

I apologise if I am missing your point here - so please clarify the exact
requirement.

Then why didn't you make that clear in your original post? Mind readers have
their own newsgroups and don't usually help out with computer help support.
No, you can't use the 6 floppy disk set to create a bootable XP CD. You will
need some additional software, a floppy drive, and a folder on your hard
drive with at least the contents of the i386 folder.

If you have an OEM product then the OEM provided you with a method of
restoring your machine to as shipped from factory state.
If your system requires a Repair then the OEM supplied method should be
used.

Well,
The post was :
I want to know If I can make a bootable cd from the 6 floppies...........and
then use the created cd to boot from. I wish to us the made boot cd and NOT
THE WINDOWS XP CD.
I want to create a bootable cd from the 6-foppies and then use it to boot
the computer and not use the Windows XP cd.
Is this possible if anyone but Mike Brannigan knows? Apparently I am not
getting my post to him with clarity. So if there is any one else on here who
understands what I want to do
(I want to create a bootable cd from the 6-foppies and then use it to boot
the computer and not use the Windows XP cd.please reply.)

For Pine tree, er Hemlock, er whatever.
I don't have access to google. I have only email service.............DUH !!
If you didn't know the answer why do you bother posting? That only shows
that Microsoft ain't too picky about who they allow the MVP title to.

Please post here your clarification of exactly what you are trying to do.
Please reference my post of Thu, 12 Feb 2004 00:11:09 -0000 (GMT)

In simple terms - why do you want a boot CD ? What are you trying to do?
(I have already addressed the issues of Windows PE in my other posts)

I think Billy Bob Gates question is very clear. He wants to know if he C A N
, and H O W to , not why, or if he should. One can not presume that he does
not know what he is doing. Jym

If he tells us "why" we can tell him a course of action.
He can make a "bootable" CD using pretty much any commercial CD Burning app.
Will that CD do much for him ? Who knows.
It is kind of the equivalent of "I want a Boot floppy" - so in XP just make
one, but once you boot from it what can you really do (very little). Same,
same with a boot CD.

He seems to miss that the setup floppies are just that, a set of floppies
that go through the setup process. and have nothing to do with the concept
of a boot floppy or CD.
