Not Really Me

I have a P4 Motherboard (M957G) setup that is performing quite poorly.
Using Sysintrnals Process Explorer I can see that it appears to spend an
inordinate amount of time on hardware interrupts. It looks to be during
disk activity, but I can't tell for sure.

How can I determine which driver is using all the interrupts?

There have been reports that NVIDIA 6800 graphics cards having caused
hardware interrupt storms. If you have such a card check for the latest
video driver for your card, download and install.

This is using the on-board video controller. Doesn't seem to be video
related.

Open to many questions.
Do you do normal maintenance? ---Run disk cleanup and defrag regularly.
Are you indexing?
Virus programs running in background?

The machine is being moved from home to a general workstation position.
Just deleted all kinds of stuff. Been running ESET NOD32 AV since new.
Defrag just done.
Windows update does not report any drivers out of date.
Disabled the AV realtime file check and it makes no difference.
Task manager shows high 90% range for idle task, but machine runs like an
old dog.
Process Explorer shows the high HW interrupts, sometime in the high 70%
range, it shows the idle task down low at the same time.
Indexing was on, but I am shutting it down now. FWIW, as explorer is going
through changing the attributes of all files to remove indexing, ProcExp is
showing 30-40% idle, 30-40% hardware interrupts and 3-4% explorer.

Oops. Idiot alert. Had the harddrive cable plugged into the secondary IDE.
Swapped, fixed.
