When I try to backup all selected files will not be copied. In the report I
can read

Varning! Det gick inte att öppna C:\Mina
dokument\Bilar_Husvagn\Husvagn\Julbrev SoliferPolar.docx - filen ignoreras.
Orsak: Filen eller katalogen är skadad och kan inte läsas.

Translation to english "Warning! Can't open .... Reason: File or folder is
damaged and can not be read.

But there is absolutely no problem to see the file in explorer or open it in
word. My backup is about 4,5 GB and has worked fine for several years - some
month ago I got above problem first time. More then 1 GB of the files will
therefore not be part of the backup.

If I browse the file table in the restore tab there are RED ! on all missing
files.

Any idea

If this is ntbackup you are using, I can only say that the XP/2003 version
is none too reliable. A lot of the problems are with the Media Pooling
service rather than the backup app itself. If the media database gets
corrupted, the app starts to misbehave. This happens alll too frequently.
Clearing the media pools in compmgmt.msc may correct the problem, but of
course means you also lose your backup catalogs.

For disk-to-disk backup, you might find Cobian Backup (Amanita) a better
product. Cobian doesn't support tape, that's the main limitation.

Yes it's windows backup - ntbackup - I'm using since many years. Didn't
follow you how to clean media pools - I don't find any lines called media
pool in compmgmt.msc.
But already this weekend I find Cobian backup and installed it. It works
fine - actual I don't need ntbackup any more...
