I upgraded from Windows Me to Windows XP and all was good
until the day I deleted something that was in my recycle
bin without my knowledge. Probably not the best thing to
do, I re-installed Me without un-installing XP and then
tried to install the XP upgrade and get nothing but
errors. Now I decide to wipe the hard drive using f/disk
command...are you with me?...Start from a clean slate, ok
now it should work right? No. Still getting tons of
errors when the software starts to install. Is this an
issue that requires re-authentication? If so, how do I go
about this in the most painless manner? If not, I'm at a
loss and don't have a clue. Please help. Mahalo, Eric

I upgraded from Windows Me to Windows XP and all was good
until the day I deleted something that was in my recycle
bin without my knowledge.

The contents in the Recycle Bin have no bearing on how the operating system
behaves. The files are "in reserve" and are not loaded into memory.
Emptying the Recycle Bin does not change that status.

errors.

That would be the results I would expect from that sequence of events.
Now I decide to wipe the hard drive using f/disk
command...are you with me?...Start from a clean slate, ok
now it should work right? No. Still getting tons of
errors when the software starts to install.

You forgot to tell us what all of these errors are.

Suggestions: Run the Upgrade Advisor on the XP CD. Follow its suggestions.
If still having trouble, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals and then
run setup. Once XP is up and running, then start adding your hardware
devices back one by one.

A guide for performing a clean install can be found here:

Reinstalling the operating system from scratch will require activation.
When installing to the same computer, activation can usually be
accomplished via an internet connection. Worse scenario: Internet
activation fails. You get prompted to make a phone call. Follow the prompts
on the screen to complete activation. If asked for a reason, simply state
that you had to reinstall the operating system.
