XP and word

I jsut bought a new computer that has XP as the operating system. I appears
that I don't have microsoft word whit Xp is that normal?

You have to purchase word separately.

XP is the operating system that Word runs on. Word is part of Office and can
be obtained by purchasing the various versions of Office, as a stand alone
Office application, or [one of the best values] as part of the Works Suite.
Your old computer probably came with bundled software that included Word.
Word has never been included in Windows.
If all you need is to read a Word document, you can download a Word viewer
to read .doc files.
You can also download OpenOffice as an alterainative to office. It is free
and is compatible with Word documents.

Yes, that's perfectly normal.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
