I have a windows 98se box acting as an internet router
for my network. I have two XP boxes and one multi boot
box with RHLinux, 98se and XP.

The power went down and messed up the 98se server and one
of the XP boxes. I got the server up and it is now
providing internet access to all the OS partitions named
above with the exception of the XP boxe that crashed with
the server. Also all the boxes can see each other, share
and play nice, with the same exception.

The differance is that on the XP box that went down, I
ran the network/internet connection wizard. I now
remember being told not to run this wizard on a 98se
network, but to let 98se run the network/internet sharing.

I have tried to assign an IP and all that jazz, after
this I can see the network, but still not the internet.
If I do not set the IP and all that jazz, I cannot ping
beyond my localhost.

Any clues as to how to undo the wizard? Or any other
suggestions? Going crazy! Please help

Found a fix for my own problem. There might be a better
way, but when you have spent as much time as I have
trying to resolve this mess, fixed is fixed.

I used "WinsockXPFix.exe" as suggested in another post,
did a google search for it. It fixed the problem. The down
side is that some of the previous patches you installed
need to be reinstalled through "Windows Update".

Happy Troubleshooting to all and to all a good night.
Thank you Jesus.

Max,

I have a somewhat similar problem that I'm hoping you may
be able to help with. Used network wizard to setup a
network of a 98se and an XP box. 98 box sees XP box, XP
cannot see 98. Can ping IP's both directions, but cannot
ping by computer name. Internet access ok both boxes.
I've searched support and followed the troubleshooting
guide. Any thoughts? THANKS in advance. kj

Never heard THAT one before. When I initially set up ICS on the XP here, I
made a floppy as it asks you to do and ran it on the other machines. No
probs at all.

Had one today that may help. Customer's networking went down and he knows
enough to fix it himself and did everything right then called me because it
wasn't working. I ran it all through the Wizard and got the same bum results
he got. So, I used the XP System Restore thinking that something was
corrupted in tcp/ip-land and VOILA, all working no tweaking needed.

Try System Restore to a date prior to the crash on the XP.

Just read about that prog you mentioned. You would have been much better off
using System Restore, sorry to say.
