How do I set up 95 and XP to share files? I have tried a
parallel cable and a ethernet cable and neither work.

Thanks.

If you connect the network cards in each computer directly to each
other (without a hub, switch, or router) use a crossover Ethernet
cable. A regular Ethernet cable won't work.

Crossover cables are available at computer and office supply stores.
This site has information on how to wire a crossover cable:

I do have a crossover cable connected and I am using the
wizard from the XP machine on both machines. I click the
button to auto detect the other machine as instructed and
neither machine ever finds the other machine. I removed
NAV on the XP machine because I got a message that NAV
was blocking a network connection attempt. Still no
success. This is while not connected to the internet. I
have tried the wizard individually one at a time and both
at the same time. The wizard never stops searching for
the other machine.

Thanks.

My answer about a crossover cable applies to an Ethernet connection.
From your reply, I think that you're using a parallel cable, not an
Ethernet cable. I'm not aware of a Wizard on XP that will detect both
machines when using Ethernet. XP's Network Setup Wizard, which uses
an Ethernet connection, won't run on 95.
