sharing but am having problems anyone help me any steps anyone can give me to
follow thanks for all the help.

Hi:

I can't help you, but wanted to add that I am having exactly the same
problem. I have more than one XP computer on my network, and my laptop,
running Vista, can 'see' the printers, but when I try to access the printer,
I either get an error message, indicating that Windows is denied access, or,
in one instance, I got a message indicating that there was insufficient
memory, and that I should close programs.

It would certainly be nice if anyone has a solution to this issue.

This may help, any way check it out!!!!
Recently I changed my AntiVirus from PC-Illin Suite (Expired) to Avast,
prior to which I had a network working sharing Internet, files, printer, etc.
After installing Avast I lost my home network and it was due the fact that
Avast has a module called P2P Shield & Network Shield and I had to disable to
the P2P Shield, then everything was back to normal.
Other AV programs have Network Protection modules, you need to ensure these
are set up th allow your home network traffic to flow.
This is assuming that all other network settings are set correctly, such as
permissions, printer sharing, etc.
If you require assistance to set up the network more info is required -
What type of connection, LAN or wireless?
Are the drivers up to date for the router/ printer?
Which computer is the printer on XP or Vista?
Make sure you follow directions for setting up the network correctly
There are other posts in this discussion group which will refer you to
details of how to set up a network, check them out!!!!!

Re my last post - I have personally found that it is best the have the
printer connect to the Vista machine if possible, that will depend on whether
the the printer has drivers for Vista.

My printer is connected to my Vista pc, trying to share with XP pc. I have
the Vista drivers installed. I can locate the printer on the XP, but when I
try to print, it says "unable to print, etc." Any ideas? Do I need the
drivers for XP, as well?

So that the print job does not have to search for drivers install the printer
driver on the XP machine - on the XP machine in printer "Properties" - tick -
Do not share this printer"
All that I have written works for me but not knowing the type of you have
installed cannot be 100% sure for you
My printer - Canon Pixma 830

It does have the XP driver - are you saying I should also install the Vista
driver on the XP pc? I have an Epson CX6600.

I also had this problem and can confirm that this solution worked for me.
The main issue here is that if Vista is the printer's host's OS, then the
Client computer (in this case the XP laptop) must also have the Vista drivers
installed-- not the XP drivers. My printer was Dell AIO Photo 924 and I can
now print from the laptop.

client driver must = host driver
