Hi all!
Anyone know why XP Pro won't re-install on one of my systems after a format?
I re-formatted after being hit by the blaster on Monday evening (I know
there were fixes, but the system had become unstable anyway, and needed a
re-load) I used fdisk to remove all partitions, fdisk /MBR etc, etc, and
rebooted to the XP pro CD. All went well until I'm asked to choose the
partition to install to. I then get the message " Partition size
misreported, setup will now exit" or words to that effect. The drive will
take win98 no bother but rejects XP!
THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND I'M PISSED OFF!!!
I now have several HDD's that I can only use for storage!
I've been told of rumours that MS can trash your HD if you're using a
cracked copy of XP, but can't see how this would work. I have 2 legit OEM
CD's with licenses for my other machines but can't be bothered with the
hassle of arguing the toss with MS representative on phone (like first time
it happened) so I use an activation free CD on the PC that I use on the net.
I've changed the serial and installed SP1 OK.
Anyone know what's causing this, and any idea how I can salvage the HDD's
concerned?
Sorry to be long-winded!
Thanks
Peter
