I recently received a much better computer than the one I
had been using. So my neat idea was to take my 40 gig
harddrive which I already have XP installed on and put it
in a this computer with a much faster processor. I didn't
think it would be a problem since I wasn't copying XP or
using it in two computers. I paid for the copy I was using
and only put into a different computer. Well it wouldn't
allow it and corrupted my boot files. I tried to put it
back in the original computer and repair the files with no
luck. What should I do?
Also where are the read me files so I can find my product
id number of the XP operating system?

Put the "old" drive in the "new" computer and then boot from the Windows XP
CD ROM and run a Repair Install.
All of this assumes that you using the Retail version of Windows XP and not
the OEM one (either supplied with your "old" PC or purchased by you or
whoever); since OEM versions may not be moved to a new PC.
