I just got a new computer with xp and my old force feedback software won't
install, also it has a game port connection and the new system has usb?
anything i can do about this? Thanks

Hi Tnort,

Time for a new stick. Gameports are basically obsolete now.

You can find Gameport to USB adapters at your local Mall,
or some people install a cheap soundcard with a Gameport
however I don't recommend either of those methods.

First you're not guaranteed that the game controller will be
detected and function properly. Force feedback support
of course is not possible when using a converter.

Lastly, it only costs a few dollars more for a USB joystick.
The hassle and fuss just isn't worth it to try and hang on to
the old stick. That's just my opinion, the choice is yours. :-)

What make and model of force feedback joystick are you wanting to use?

Did you check with the joystick manufacturer for updated drivers?

A gameport force feedback control would need the MIDI capabilities which
probably aren't amoung the features processed by the adaptors that allow
analog game controlers to be used on USB ports. On many late model
computers the use of game port force feedback and other game port
digital controlers would require the installation of a sound card. The
cost of that card may approach or equal the price of a new forcefeedback
joystick, depending on the quality and features you desire in the products.
