I have 2 pc connected to each using a crossover cable.

PC A = xp and dsl modem(usb)
PC B = 98se

I ran the setup wizard on the PC A and created a disc to
run on PC B, fine everythin ok installs asks to re boot.

Re-boots works, can connect to internet on both PC and
file share. Firewall on PC A running while everything
working. Fire wall is Zonealarm, XP firewall switched
off. Norton internet securtiy switched off.

If i then re-boot/turn off PC B then next time it I re-
start it. I have lost the network and have to run the
disc again for it to work.
Also while the network is active, if I've got to reboot
PC A when it restarts PC B find the internet gateway
straight away

I have tried un-installing zonealarm and norton. No
effect still happens. Tryed using specfic and automatic
ip settings. No effect.

Hardware is fine as it does work after the disc is run.

It just seems to loose the settings.

The next time the problem occurs, don't run the disc again. Instead,
run Winipcfg on PC B and look at the TCP/IP settings for the network
adapter. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

If it shows an IP address of 169.254.x.x, it means that the network
card couldn't communicate with the ICS server at boot time. In that
case, click the Renew button and see what happens. Does that give it
the right settings?

If that doesn't help, open a command prompt window on PC A and run
"ipconfig /all". See what it shows for the local area network
adapter's IP address and subnet mask, and also for the "IP Routing
Enabled" setting at the start of the output.

Hi.
I have a problem like this. I solve making a release and
renew from winipcfg in W98. The two options is ok, let
say, the ip address and the "IP Routing
Enabled" setting at the start of the output.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks
