XP and 2000 Networking Problem

I am trying to get the computers in my home network to coommunicate. My
Win98 and Win2000 machines are communicating and exchange files but neither
of them can see my WinXP machine. My WinXP machine can't see any of the
other machines either.

I have tried to ensure that all three machines have the same collection of
drivers and have also ensure that they all belong to the same group,
'Mshome' group. However despite that they don't communicate.

Any ideas? My Win XP machine is wireless whereas the other two are cable
based. Would that make a difference? I have checked that they have the same
subnet mask - so I would assume they would be communicating....

Lot of folk have this problem. I have two XPhome, one Win2000 Pro and one
Win98 on an ethernet. In Win2000 Pro I have to go into control panel and
set up user accounts.


For XP home, this is from my Targa PC OEM website which may be relevant,
(but may not). XP Pro is different I think.

Windows XP uses DNS as name resolution. This doesn't work in a peer to peer
network without DNS.
In the registry create at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters a
value named NodeType by type REG_DWORD. As value, set 1.
Now all computers can be seen in the peer to peer network.
 
If you've got firewalls, make sure they are letting the home machines
communicate w. one another.
