Hi all any help with this would be much appreciated.

New XP pro laptops need to access shared folders on an NT4 server.
They get their DNS settings from a Win2k server via DHCP and WINS is also
setup on the network all from the Win2000 server in a seperate domain.
Laptops are part of the NT4 domain (built on through My computer properties)
Users don't logon to the domain when they start as they don't need the
restrictive policies set up for other machines as they are single user
laptops.
I can browse the network quickly but when I try and map the drives it takes
ages (minutes) if you try and inturrupt it it wipes out XP although you can
logoff via the task manager options. When I log back on the drive is there
but can take ages to browse it although once it is browsed it then connects
very quickly.
The XP laptops from last year had problems with this but de-selecting search
the network in the folder view fixed it. This year no dice. Has microsoft
hard wires this process?
I have tried the printers and scheduled tasks registry fix and putting in
the credetials differently for the drives or for the server but still no
dice.

Any help much appreciated

Hi

The problem may be that XP tries to encrypt/sign channels
by default where as NT 4 doesn't.

In the Local Security Policy under security options change
the entry Domain Member Digitally encrypt or sign secure
channel data (always) and disable it. restart and you
should be able to connect.
