Is any proof required that one is a student when activating the Academic
Version?? How does MS verify that you're a student or an educator?

Academic Versions of Windows XP are:

--- For noncommercial, educational use only.
--- For qualified educational users only.
--- Non-upgradeable to the next Windows O/S.
--- Non-transferable.
--- Has installation support only.
--- Has a non-perpetual license that is tied to the eligibility of the
user.
(If a user is no longer a student or educator, the license is no
longer valid)

Your right to use the Academic version of Windows XP ends when
you no longer meet the criteria for using the Academic version of XP.

If you do not meet the above criteria, then you cannot use the
Academic Version of Windows XP.

So which are you? Student or teacher? If student, you'll need a copy
of your student ID and a copy of your current class enrollment. Best to
ask the seller since they know under what rules they need to comply for
selling the academic version.
