XP / 98 networking issue

Anti virus programs sometimes limits the ability of
Windows 98 computers to see Windows XP users on a
Microsoft client network. You can try adjusting the level
of protection of the local network setting. Removing the
protection will surely allow you to see the XP computer
but you then should have a router to protect your
network. I disabled Zone alarm yesterday when I couldn't
see our new XP server. I have not yet tried to adjust the
settings on Zone but may not as we have a router that says
it blocks unauthorized access (emails may still be a
problem to be looked at).

Hope this helps the other postings with 98/XP issues.

Hi. I have a network between my Win98-desktop w/cable
modem connection and my laptop XP with a D-Link card. I
have McAfee on the 98, and Norton on the XP. Each
working individually; however, I continually get the same
update msg. on the 98, to make sure I have chose
to "prompt" on ActiveX controls. This is confusing to
me...I have them set correctly, so, WHY am I getting the
same update from McAfee?? I can't tell if it's because
my Win98 or the XP or the combination. Any help out
there??
Thanks, Laura
