I've configured the ethernet PCI cards on both desktops;
one running XP and the other running 2000 Professional.

I've assigned the XP (the host) an IP address of
192.168.0.1 and the 2000 Professional 192.168.0.2.
The reasoning behind my 'home' network in the first place
is to access the files on the 2000 professional computer.
The volume and magnitude of the files to be transfered
necessitate a fast connection...
Will the above transfer be possible?

Any detailed advice would be most appreciated...

Tks

Hello..

Yeah.. the below is possible.. though there's a little more to it..

If your connecting your machine's via an Ethernet hub or switch.. then all
should be well.. however if you want to connect both machines just using a
cable straight out the back of one machine and into the other.. then you
will need a special network cable called a cross-over cable!! it ain't that
special really.. just that two of the wires are wired differently than a
normal Ethernet cable.. but that will allow both machine's to "talk"
directly.. without goin through a hub or switch!

you might also have to check your subnet mask.. most likely set it to
"255.255.255.0" ooh and having both machine's set to the same workgroup
might save you some trouble..

Cheers, Kenny
