I have ordered the MS service pack 2 on CD. I have a K8V delux board
with a AMD3200+ and 2 hard drive running in a raid 0 config. It has a
ATI 9600 SE card so far the system has been solid. Running XP home
version witrh service pack 1 . Is there anything to look for before I
do the upgrade.

Thank

Once and for all ( Not mentioning this to hurt you):

SP2 will NOT hurt your hardware!! The only thing you have to worry about is
incompatible programms. Hardware will not be affected. If your system will
be hurt it is a software problem, not a hardware problem. I updated the
drivers to the latest ones before upgrading.

You can set a system restre point to have a chance to rebuilt the system,
but it worked without one for me.

Best way to answer this is search in Google:

One platform combo with problems are boards that use Intel
Prescott P4. They will hang up due to update.sys, the microcode
loader (depending on whether the BIOS has a recent copy of
microcode or not). On boards where the owner inserted a Prescott
where the board manufacturer doesn't support a Prescott, of course
there isn't any microcode to speak of, and it would be unlikely
a manufacturer would issue a BIOS update to help out such an
individual. In any case, renaming update.sys before rebooting SP2
will fix it. The second option is to disable L1/L2 cache, if
you forget to change update.sys before rebooting, but AMI BIOS
don't have a setting to disable L1/L2.

So, yea, it is possible to have an unpleasant experience, and since
Microsoft isn't likely to admit to these style problems, Google
is your best bet.

Restore Points are a great idea, and they will probably work IF you
have a problem that at least allows the operating system to launch.
But a LOT of users are reporting SP2 hangups that prevent Windows from
starting up. My brother had this happen on 2 out of 4 machines, and
they didn't even have the Prescott processors that seem to account for
many fatal problems (see several threads in this forum for details).
What is best is to BACK UP the ENTIRE SYSTEM to tape, CD, DVD, or
another HD with imaging software or backup software that will allow
you to completely restore your whole system -- OS, programs, data, and
all -- if SP2 causes a fatal hang before Windows opens.

As an off-topic aside, my brother's problems occurred on eMachine
computers that had worked very well up until this point -- i.e., they
seemed like true bargains. However, in wondering if there was a BIOS
upgrade that might correct the problem, we went to the eMachine Web
site. Unbelievably, we found that they do not offer one single BIOS
upgrade for ANY computer they've EVER manufactured. There is a
product selector that leads to pages for "user guides,"
"Specifications," and "Downloads," but there are NO actual hyperlinks
on any of these pages. Their FAQs don't even mention BIOS upgrades.
One might get somewhere with phone support (don't know, didn't try),
but I was absolutely astonished at the TOTAL absence of downloadable
files on the eMachine tech-support pages -- an overwhelming reason
NEVER to consider purchasing one of these things, IMHO.
