Is there a way to add or somehow employ a spell-checker with Xnews? I
can't find any references to such in the documentation.

TIA
Wayne

"This All-Purpose Spell Checker download is licensed as Shareware.
All-Purpose Spell Checker is designed for the Windows operating
system."

Maybe WordWeb?

http://wordweb.info/free/

Whoa, that must be something new. I dl'ed a year or so ago and no mention
of shareware was made. There's no nag screen or such.

Unless my memory (made of swiss cheese) is again playing me false.

Tiny Spell 1.3 (548 KB)

http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/

"Occasionally you need to check the spelling of words in an application
that does not include a spelling checker and you don't want to launch your
word processor just for that. This is when tinySpell becomes handy. It is a
small utility that allows you to easily and quickly check the spelling of
words in any Windows application. tinySpell monitors your typing on the fly
and alerts you whenever it detects a misspelled word. It also checks the
spelling of every word you copy to the clipboard. tinySpell installs itself
in the system tray for easy access. It comes with an American-English
dictionary containing more than 110,000 words."

tinySpell is a freeware but if you find it useful and want to support its
development you can make a donation.

Hey Ben, I was wondering since the author has abandoned this and I can't
ask him, is there a way to enable the custom dictionary feature?

I haven't actually tried it, but at the bottom of the screen, click
Options/Change spelling options and insert the name/location of the
dictionary in the box to the right.

If it works, will you post it, please?

Whence cometh this silly notion that every electrical circuit must have a
ground? Speaking as a scientist, I blame electrical engineers. Science is
pure and holy. It's when engineers put science into practice that things
get messed up.

They only work in the registered version. The search continues.....

For a spell checker or a newsreader ? If the latter then why not use a
newsreader with a spell checker included ? The following does
everything Xnews does and more :

Nope. Ping returns "217.160.185.201: Destination net unreachable."

Tracert doesn't even get out of my ISP's site before it stops. I wonder
if my SysOp has
the URL blocked as a spamsource or something?

Wierd!

I use a program called Tinyspell

I'm not sure if it is on pricelessware.org but it should be. I have it
turned off now so if I spell something wrong don't blame the program.

Searching for a way to unlock the custom dictionary feature in APSC not
in a newsreader...give up Xnews? I shudder at the thought but will check
out your link anyway, never say never right?

If you're keen to stay with Xnewsw, why not just tell it it to use an
external editor for composition? I don't use Xnews much anymore, since
I am using Linux mostly, but when I do use Xnews, it invokes the
editor of my choice, and so I have the spellchecker from that editor
available for use when composing posts in Xnews.
