XLStart has stopped!

Brian

I have been using Excel daily, with the current configuration, for many
months. I had it set up to open on one particular worksheet but on starting
Excel today, I find that it will only open with Book1. I can still open the
file manually but I cannot get it to open automatically.
On checking the XLStart folder in Office, the shortcut to my usual startup
sheet is still there. I even tried deleting it, exiting and then putting it
back but that does no good. The shortcut does work so that is not the
problem.
There are XLStart folder in the Documents and Settings and Office10 folders
so I tried putting the shortcut there but without success.
I tried 'Detect and Repair' but that made no difference.
This is driving me mad. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what could
have gone wrong?
As far as I know, I have not consciously changed any settings.

Thanks,

Brian

Have you checked Tools-->Options-->General Tab-->Alternate Startup?

There should be nothing on that line.
