Running Excel 2000. Since it was installed, the PERSONAL.XLT file has
been in the XLSTART folder, thus each startup displays the .XLT file vs
a new document. Understand the .XLT file may be the home for common
macros, but does it have to reside in the XLSTART folder? Unclear on
this.

Comments....? Tnx.....Hal Plimpton

Your file that contains your macros should be .xls or .xla (not .xlt).

But you could have Book.xlt (template for new workbooks) and sheet.xlt (template
for new sheets in existing workbooks) in that same XLStart folder.

It sounds as though you got a little mixed up between your macro workbook and
your template workbook(s).
