Xircom NIC card on 2000

Hi

I have tried few hours to get Xircom rem56g-100 works on a
dell laptop (Windows 2000 professional).The device manager
says it is working ,but, I do not see any traffic either
going out or coming in ( all 0s)

Does anyone know any issue with Xircom credit card with
56k modem card on windows 2000 (rem56g-100) ?

Have you downloaded & installed the latest W2k driver from the Xircom (now
Intel) site?
Can you get an IP address via DHCP (or manually specify one)?
What does ipconfig /all tell you?
 
Yes,
I did download the latest driver from Intel.
I did NOT get ip address from dhcp, it shows ip address is
169.173.x.x when I do ipconfig -all

I am stuck now

Do you have a DHCP server on your LAN? If not, that would 'splain it. What
if you enter a static IP for your network, regardless?
Any errors in your event logs?
Any third party software firewall app installed?
