On this specific computer, I'm able to view an xhtml file (created from
open office) fine. This computer is running windows XP. On a
different computer running windows XP, IE chokes and just displays a
file to download. Neither is my personal computer. Is that a browser
issue? Version? Setting? All XP systems will be running IE6, yes?

I'd rather not provide the URL, presumably this is not unheard of.

IE will parse an xhtml document on your local pc as broken html. However
when downloaded from a server, a mime-type is sent with the page. IE
recognizes this and realizes this is xhtml, so he can't display it. It
asks you to download it to open it with an xhtml-compatible browser. I
would recommend Firefox or Opera.
