I am trying to find a way to transfer settings from an old Windows XP
installation to a new one on the same disk. I had a motherboard and
system drive failure but I had backups of all the drives made using
Windows backup. I did a fresh install of XP in a different folder and
then restored my original system disk. I could not boot from the
original XP folder due to now having a different motherboard. So now
I have all my old settings in the old XP folder which I want to
transfer to my new XP installation. How can I tranfer them? I cannot
use FAST because the old installation will not boot. xferring

You'd be better off *not* doing this. Just get the files (favorites,
emails, contacts, documents, pictures, etc) and recreate the 'settings' in
each application as you use it.

(And doing it given your situation is highly unlikely anyway.)
