I recently put a sony bcm cd into my windows media player library. After this
i could no longer burn music discs, I just got "no CD or DVD burner has been
detected" I have tried alsorts of downloads to try and cure the problem with
no luck. I have even downloaded Windows defender after I searched for "sony
xcp" within google because it said about detecting and deleting it, well it
didnt.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get my windows media player burning again?
Yes all my other burning applications work fine.

Is this on XP Home, by any chance? You did read the note about it requiring
administrator?

If this is on XP Home, you might consider restarting in safe mode and
logging in as "administrator"--probably with no password unless you know
that one has been set on that account--and trying the script again. I don't
know if that will make a difference, but it isn't hard to try.

I'm reasonably sure that the issue this script should correct is at the root
of your problem--let me see if I can find some other angles to approach it
from--I think there may be some Microsoft code for this as well.
