Xbox 360

Here is my situation...

I can see the Xbox 360 in my network in vista, and it is listed as one of my
shared media devices, however, the 360 cannot see the computer and when I try
to set it up as an extender, I get the "Cannot find Extender" Message in the
vista media center. Also, even though the xbox is listed as a shared media
device, I can't see it on the xbox when I try to connect. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

For some reason I also have Problems connecting RC1 with the Xbox.
Everything starts fine, and as soon Media Center on the Pc reaches the
configuration part the Xbox tells me that there was a problem connecting and
that I should restart the xbox....
I thought it might be a problem with the router, but interesting enough
using Windows Media Connect on XP works fine...

Any idea why this could be? Any Software update needed for the Xbox?

Thanks in advance, Daniel

I am having exactly the same problems as you. It is doing my head in! I had
it connected okay in pre-RC1 and Beta 2, but I cannot get it to connect to
the internet or media centre, getting exactly the same results as you guys. I
hope that you have let Microsoft know, as I think that there has been changes
made to the set up Network.

Try disableing your firewall - worked for me

I haven't had to disable the firewall in previous Vista beta's and you
shouldn't have to. It really needs to be sorted, as something has definately
been changed in the set up a network in RC1. perhaps the Xbox360 needs an
update, but as I can't get it connected to the internet, this won't help me!!
Thanks for your help everyone, but have got so fed up that I have stopped
trying. have given Microsoft plenty of feedback about it.

If you can't connect the Xbox 360 to the internet, you should probably start
searching for the error from the xbox. It doesn't sound like it has anything
to do with Vista.

Best of luck.

Mads.

Why? It was perfectly connected before I installed Vista RC1, and has been
connected in previous beta's including preRC1!!! Its only with RC1 has the
problem started!

Easy on the exclamation points, I'm just trying to help.

All I'm saying is: If you can't even get the Xbox 360 to connect to the
internet, it sounds like it's the Xbox that has problems. The Xbox is able to
connect to Xbox Live on itself, it doesn't need a Windows box for that. It
could be - by some freak accident - that the network connection on the Xbox
broke around the same time you installed Vista, without the two having
anything to do with each other.

Sorry didn't realise you weren't supposed to use exclamation marks. No , what
I mean is this, you have all your connections working in XP, connection to
internet is sharing with Xbox, Xbox is able to access your pics and music,
right, you install Vista RC1, not a clean istall mind you, as last time I did
that, I lost all my connections to internet, and then couldn't get it working
again, so install over XP, then why have your settings changed? Why can't
your settings be copied as they are during installation? But when installing
pre-RC1 and Beta 2, I didn't have this problem, yes I had to go into network
and sharing to set everything up, and into Media Centre, but everything
connected okay. So something has changed since pre-RC1. As I cannot get the
XBox 360 connected either to the Internet or the Media Centre.

I suggest filing a bug report. There should be a "How to Share Feedback"
shortcut on the desktop.
