Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver and connectivity issues

Hello, I'm trying to get my Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver to work on my Windows
XP SP2 based computer. The receiver is detected when I plug into the USB
port, and when I check the device manager it says that the device is
operating properly. When I try to connect either my Xbox 360 wireless
controller or my Xbox 360 wireless racing wheel, all that happens is that the
ring of light spins around for a second, and then all four quadrants begin to
flash continually, without ever stopping. I've tried updating the receiver's
driver through Windows Update, but I'm still unable to connect any
controller. The batteries in the controller are charged, and this can't even
be an issue as the racing wheel is plugged into 120V so there's no chance of
lack of power there. I've come across other people having issues connecting
to the receiver, but they all appear to be using Vista. Has anyone run
across this issue with XP SP2? According to the MS Support site, the
receiver needs a minimum of XP SP2 which I have.
If you have managed to come across this before and have a solution I would
really appreciate hearing it! Otherwise, if you have any ideas on how I can
get it working I would love to hear them!

I got my wireless Xbox 360 controller to work the first time I hooked
it up, but the next day I am getting the same thing you did. I have
been runing SP2 prior to install so that shouldn't be it.

I had the same problem guys and this is how I solved it :

1. UNPLUG THE RECEIVER FROM THE USB PORT
2. UNINSTALL THE DRIVER USING THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS IN CONTROL PANEL.
3. GO INTO DEVICE MANAGER AND REMOVE THE XBOX 360 PERIPHERAL ENTRY WHICH SHOULD BE RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM THE LAST HEADING UNDER USB DEVICES. I THINK YOU HIGHLIGHT IT AND CLICK ON REMOVE OR UNINSTALL AND IT SHOULD DISAPPEAR LEAVING JUST THE USB DEVICES HEADER .
4. THIS IS OPTIONAL BUT I RAN A REGISTRY CLEANER AND THEN RESTARTED MY COMPUTER.
5. DO NOT PLUG IN THE WIRELESS RECEIVER YET....INSTALL THE WIRELESS RECEIVER SOFTWARE, ONCE YOU'VE DONE THAT PLUG IN THE WIRELESS RECEIVER TO A SPARE USB PORT..YOU SHOULD THEN GET A LITTLE BUBBLE DOWN BY YOUR CLOCK SAYING WINDOWS HAS FOUND NEW HARDWARE AND ONCE AGAIN AFTER ITS INSTALLED THE SOFTWARE FOR THE XBOX360 GAMING DEVICE SAYING ITS READY TO USE.
6. POWER UP YOUR 360 PAD ENSURING THE BATTERIES ARE FULLY CHARGED OR IF YOU'RE USING DURACELLS THEY HAVE LOTS OF LIFE IN THEM.
7. PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE RECEIVER UNTIL IT FLASHES THEN PRESS THE LITTLE BUTTON ON THE 360 PAD AND THE FOUR GREEN QUADRANTS SHOULD FLASH FOR A SECOND THEN STOP ON ONE GREEN SEGMENT IF IT CONNECTS PROPERLY.

I did the above on my system and it worked straight off like it did when i first got it.

Hope this helps.

cheers, daz.

PS MAKE SURE YOU HAVENT GOT ANY OTHER WIRELESS DEVICES NEARBY, MOBILE PHONES, CORDLESS PHONES ETC AS THESE COULD STOP THE DEVICE WORKING PROPERLY.
