I think you need a 800 Watt PSU for that one.

HELLO NURSE.

Hello,

Oh what are you saying??????
Only a 800 watts i thought we need a nuclear battery for that card.

A 400 watts PSU is sufficient

OK, let me expand. The video card requires power but they've implemented a
new 6 pin PCI Express video card power connector. As far as I can tell I
need a new PSU that is ATX12V 2.0 compliant which should have a seperate 6
pin plug. The Antec Neopower 480 looks like the right thing, but surely I
can get a 12V connector adaptor, can't I?

The Neopower is going to cost me £100 (UK Pounds)

Andi.

PS The box says minimum of 350Watts, I already have a new 450 Watt PSU but
it is missing this 6-pin supply.

Andi,

What Make of card?
Sapphire, Asus etc.

Mine has a 3 pin (purple) and I use a 550w PS with no problems.

The videocard will come with an 4pin -> 6pin adaptor, so relax. Same
with nvidia.

No adapter in the box which was still sealed with a Sapphire tag. Box
actually says, under requirements, "PCI EXpress compatible system with a
specialised 12v graphics card power connector".

Confirms my opinion of Sapphire as cheesy idiots.
Return the card for a full refund. Must be a very small handful
of people that have ATX2.0 power-supplies. ( The ATX2.0 power
supply also needs to come with adapters like 24-pin to 20-pin
ATX for existing motherboards, again for backward-compatibilty
reasons. )

Just had confirmation that Sapphire neglected to send out power adapters,
they're expected sometime next week!

Andi.

Such adapters will be available for separate purchase at computer shops,
just like motherboard adapters that allow you to run ATX boards off AT power
supplies.

Do I really need to buy a new PSU to power my X800XT PCI-Express card?

Andi.
Howdy Andi,
Probably not. My card came with a dongle adapter. One funny looking
side to the card and the other standard molex to the psu.
Cheers,
Cliff

i had a 350w psu and had to change because of system instability with a
lowly x800 pro. i changed for a Antec neo480 and my system been fine
ever since
