X800 GTO 2 Mod heat issue?

I have just bought a Sapphire X800 GTO 2 and was wondering if anyone
has any experience with the mod to X850 XT PE. I understand that the
success rate has been 100% so far. But my concerns is the fact that
the heatsink on a X850 XT PE is 2 slot and considerably larger than
the heatsink on the X800 GT0 2. However the GTO 2 heatsink is almost
identical to the X850 Pro which clocks at 507/1040.

Will unlocking the additional 4 pipes increase the heat that much?
Should this bea concern with the smaller GTO 2 heatsink?

And secondly is there a VGA Artic Cooler available for the GTO series?

i just bought the same x800 GTO2
easy mod to unlock to 16 pipes from 12, i havn't got around to overcocking
yet though

the heatsink is rather weedy i must say, i like something that does overkill
generaly i'd just keep an eye on the temp, and replace the cooler, you will
get more speed out of it i would think as a result as ell as cooler chip
anyone got any max temp for x800/x850's ?

nah go ahead and mod it, you won't have any problems as the default speeds
anyway
 
My x800 pro is now a x800 XT PE and has been running 16 pipes @ 520/560
since the first day. Softmod away, but read up, seriously, read up and
follow instructions. Make backups where you can. JIC.

I have a connect3d x800gto not gto^2 coming in tomorrow. From what
hear this card is unlockable as well. It seems if you get the VIV
card (which I did) then all you need is the softmod to unlock th
card to 16 pipes. You can clock the crap outta this card as wel
with stock cooling, or to extend the life of the card and possibl
over clock more just get the ATI silencer 5 rev2

I'll let you know my success with unlocking the pipes tomorrow whe
UPS brings it to me

I ordered my x800gto from newegg.com for only $183, considerably les
than the gto^2, unless you were one of the lucky ones to get th
gto^2 right when it came out, at that point it was the same price a
the regular gto. With gto^2 being 100% un-lockable it was a steal

Hi..yes I got the ATI silencer 5 rev. 2 and this card (Sapphire GTO 2)
overclocks like crazy. Ati tool was showing 584 core and 620 mem when
I decided it was enough. But I am sure it will go further. I'll be
happy with X850 XT PE speeds especially if unlocking the extra 4 pipes
works. In Korea I stand to save about $ 345 with this GTO 2 ($250) +
cooler ($30) over a X850 XT PE ($625). This is one good card for the
money. I havent unlocked the pipes yet but I will keep you posted
and hope you'll do the same.

I just got the card in and unlocked the pipes without a problem.
don't have my system ordered yet so I haven't tried to overclock th
card yet. But I have a system here at work with a PCI-E slot. That
the computer I unlocked it with. Its a P4 2.8 w/ 512(2x256) memor
and a Intel micro-atx board. The memory is kind of crappy but it i
dual channel and is ddr400, so its not too bad

Here are my 3dmark results

3dmark0
12 pipes: 953
16 pipes: 10365 ----- 8.75% increas

3dmark0
12 pipes: 444
16 pipes: 4954 ---- 11.47% increase -----

I believe the computer that I'm running these tests on is limiting m
scores some. But for just a simple bios flash and getting ~10
increase is VERY NICE. I'm sure after I order my new system (am
3000 venice, k8n Neo4-f, 1gb(512x2) corsair) and my ati silencer i
and overclock this card I will be getting a HUGE increase. At leas
I hope

I have exactly the same set up, 3000 venice, k8n Neo 4 FI, and the ati
silencer 5. I havent unlocked the bios yet but my scores were similar.
I was able to get 5333 in 3dmark 2005 at 540/1180. And I know that
this cpu will do 2.4Gz so I ultimatley expect 3dmarks in the 6000s
when Im done unlocking the bios..nice for a $285 card :)

The only problem Im having is the mainboard chipset fan on the k8n
Neo 4 FI. It goes into sort of a high pitched whine sometimes which is
annoying. The problem now is to find a low profile cooler that will
fit thats an improvement. Not really any choices available
unfortuntely.

Nope only PCI-e unfortunately. I had to buy a new mainboard with the
card.

The only difference with my setup, or rather "future setup" is that
only payed $190 for my video card. :

By the way, where did you get your ATI Silencer, everywhere I loo
they are sold out

Well I paid $255 for my GTO^2 without any additional shipping charges
which is about on par for the card in the states. The GTO version I
think is $210 here. The extra $30 was for the ATI Silencer Both the
Silencer and the GTO ^2 are in abundant supply here in Korea. I buy
all my hardware at a computer market in Seoul called Yongsan. Its an
amazing place that takes up about 5 square blocks and is filled with
thousands of small retailers. It's supposedly bigger now then
Akihabara in Japan.The best thing is the return policies the
manufactures provide, money back return or immediate replacement of
product no questions asked. Its like going to Disneyland!
