What wattage power supply is needed for the x700 AGP card and the geforce
6600? My machine is about 4 years old (it's a Pentium 1.7). Did they have
anything more than 350 watts then?

Thanks!!

Yes, they had more than 350w PSU's back then. What wattage you need is
not a definate. What you need is a good quality PSU, that applies to
any computer. Something like a good quality Fortron 350w will run that
cpu and vid card fine. How many amps are on the +12v rail of your PSU?
It should be printed on the side of your PSU. Who is the PSU made by?

It's a Deer 300 watt with 0.3a-12a on the +12v rail. Will either of the
video cards I mentioned work with this PSU?

I wouldn't trust that PSU on any PC. +12v rail is too low. I've never
used a Deer but they have a bad reputation. Read the below url and
then decide what to buy. Fortron or Sparkle (same company, FSP) 400w
would be good and cheap. I like to buy more than I need for a bit of
future proofing. I'm using a 600w Seasonic S12 on an AMD64 3500+ cpu
and X880XL vid card.

Deer=yuck!
I would replace it asap. If I had a nickel for every deer that Ive had
that popped caps and took out hardware with it, well, Id have 20 cents.
PSU sellers should list the weight of the unit to compare by. Buy the
heaviest one!! As for your question, it will probably work but for how
long. I can hear the capacitors in that deer supply sizzling from over
here. LOL! Newegg usually has something decent in the $40 range.
