It's been working really great for a week now...using XP_32

so decided to now give XP_64 a try...
loaded OK and even got drivers for all devices *except* for the scanner and
printer.
the scanner is an older Microtek so there may never be drivers for it...
but hopfully Epson gets 64 bit drivers one of these days soon.

anyway...have not done any extensive testing
but don't see too much difference in the operation of Photoshop CS2...

so for now, the machine will prob be used with XP_32

Is there a `backward compatibility` option P ?.

cannot even install the driver...
when setup starts, there is an error message about not being a 64 bit
driver.

heck this is the first time i've installed an OS that had not been out for
several years first <G>

Perhaps we had all better stick with XP, till the `men` sort out the
new set of problems that seem to be waiting.
Funny really, `cos I`ve always told friends\colleagues to
Stay 12 months behind the latest technology, so all the bugs
can get ironed out.

That's good advice...
I'll check the Epson website from time to time...

The other option ( if XP_64 proves to work better than XP_32 for Photoshop)
would be to just boot over to XP_32 for printing

Good advice. Some even wait for the first Service Pack.
Many businesses wait even longer, are still running Win2k.

Still running Win2k here, and am very happy with it. Same install I've had
for over two years, with no problems whatsoever.

The 64 bit version of XP has sp1 installed...
and all is working well. All hardware within the machine is installed
correctly...
it's basically just a matter of two periphery devices ...printer and
scanner...
so right now the machine is just setup to dual boot.

I wish it was my own machine and not my girlfriends...
or I'd give it a try with some 64 bit Linux distro

Maybe you are just lucky, or maybe more skilled than some...
I'd heard a few mention it's not so stable but then again,
it wasn't unheard of for WinXP 32 bit to be unstable with
early drivers either.

I've been running XP x64 since May with nary a blue screen or freeze
up. There are a few peripherals, apps and games that won't work or
install (usually because of an old installer). Otherwise it has been
rock solid. Even my HP FAX/Scanner/Printer works. You may have to do
some searching for drivers.

I did have a motherboard IDE controller problem but not because of
x64.

My 2 dineros.

Well the Asus A8N-E board included the 64bit drivers...
so all I had to do was go the the website of the video card mfg...
and to Wacom for the 64 bit drivers...and that was it.
The whole thing went pretty well.

Since the Epson printer is a borrrowed one anyway...
I will just have to make sure that when I buy a printer...
it will have 64bit support.
Of course since I spent allt he money to build a new machine...
the new printer won't be purchased any time soon...
so by then...hopefully the drivers will exist
