Who here has this one? Lots of conflicting driver and temperature
comments here;

Yes I have one and think it's great although it is very wide.
I like the way it runs at slower speeds for 2D work then kicks up a notch
for 3D game playing to keep the fan noise down.

I'm a minimal user. I think I have 6.11 installed off the included CD.
At the moment it seems to be working with HL2 and Doom3 with no
obvious issues. How do I check my temps? Thanks.

I use Everest http://www.lavalys.com/ which indicates temps at idle of
GPU 59 °C (138 °F)
GPU Ambient 53 °C (127 °F)
GPU VRM 72 °C (162 °F)

Does Everest operate as a demo for a trial period or not? I wonder
which of these three temps is reported in CCC overdrive? Thanks.

I'm looking at the tray tool thing so I can up the fan speed at bit...

Yes I think so.

I don't know but ATI Tool http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/
Displays GPU and Ambient (they call it GPU enviroment) and can also tweak
the fan settings if needed.
However if I put my hand in front of the video card air exhaust (which vents
to the outside) the air doesn't feel overly hot so I don't think the temps
are a problem.

I've downloaded "ATI Tool Tray" but I'm a little leery about
installing it. It supposedly doesn't "support" the 1950XT yet and I'm
not sure what that means. For now all I want to do is run the fan a
bit faster. I feel fairly warm air at the exit but very little flow.
Also not sure if "ATT" disables the 2D/3D switching that CCC does for
you?

Well my X1950 CD Edition runs hot, very hot. (default 650/2000)
This card is the same as a XTX but with CF connector and cable.
Under load the exit grill (Slot cover), gets so hot you can't keep your
fingers on it for very long. Using ATI Tool I set my fan to 80% and the
noise went down and the temps did too. Even replaced the stock cooler with
the Zalman VF900, which had not helped all that much. I need one more
heatsink. Came with 8 sinks for RAM, but on my card this is a 9th and larger
chip covered by the stock heatsink. This may be keeping my temps up I don't
know what the chip is or for. Might be the CF controller chip as I have not
heard others mentioning it after installing the VF900 Right now as I type
ATI Tool is reporting the 1950 at 53C, err 52C. Also after installing my
1950 I upgraded my powersupply to a Thermaltake PurePower 600 w. It is
SLI/CF ready and first install I evere did without having to use power
splitters and have connectors left over. On top of that it is very QUIET.
Even with all this I just love this card. 3DMark scores over twice what they
were with my X1600XT.

P5W DH Deluxe
1g OCZ gold DDR2 800 (PC26400) dual channel
E6600@ 3.0
HIS X1950 CF Edition (512m)
600w Power
2x 120 sata,
1x 250 sata,
1x CD
1x DVD
Mouseman Optical

ATI Tool and ATI Tray Tools are two different utilities.
ATI Tool turns on the 3D mode of the card when you start up the program.
It can also set the fan speeds for you using choices of a set percentage ,
or attempt to maintain a selected target temperature, or dynamic, where the
fan speed increases as the temperature passes some predefined thresholds.

Oh heck. Two different? I was wondering why the documentation for the
one wasn't with the forum for the other. Now I know. Which one is more
popular? Thanks.

I previously used ATI Tray tool until I got the 1950XT. I found ATI Tool was
better for this particular card re the 3D switch thing.

Ok, I've got ATITool .26 installed and auto-starting. I didn't create
a profile but I set the fan speeds more aggressively with a minimum of
40%, then 60% at 70C and 100% at 80C. The spinning cube shows about
640 fps and the temps stabilize in the low 70's.
