It seems as though since 1800xt 512 cards weren't on the market long before
the 1900 was released, they have dropped in price. i saw one today for
330.00, and i would assume i could get one for around 300 soon enough. is
there a better bargain, whether it be ATI or NVIDIA?
If not, i'll need to figure out what CPU to get. I'll have to get a new PCIe
mobo and CPU. Would an Athlon64 3700 be a good match for the 1800 or would
it be too weak?

Maybe u should wait for the x1900gto.
i got a x1800gto and my a3200 64bit s939 don't have any problem with
it. the Athlon 3700 2.2ghz with 1mb of cache on the l2 cache would be
nice of coarse.

Compare the X1800XT against the 7900GT, which is also priced competitively.
Go for the one offering the best prices.

I have an A64 3200+ mated to an X1900XT, and certain games are still video
card-limited (Oblivion HDR + AA, for example). A 3700+ would be fine.
