The small red x is an image place holder which signifies that your browser
was unable to download the image and render it (draw it). If this happens
when you first start IE it could mean that your Home Page settings are
incorrect....
Select Tools=>Internet Options menu from IE and you will find the Home Page
settings on the General tab.
OR
It could mean that you have not connected to the Internet yet... Select the
file menu in IE to see if the option to Work Offline is ticked.
