X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter

I don't know if this game is able to be played on the internet anymore. I've
tried to enter my friend's IP into my config, but when I join I never see his
game. The same thing happens when we I try to host. The IP we put in is
correct. We are not on a LAN. The MSN gaming zone used to have a server for
this game where everyone could play. It has long been down. Any idea how we
can play online with each other (Balance of Power) without running a serial
line accross the nation?

Hi bb1,

Sounds like the firewall in the Router or Broadband Modem
at your end, your friends end, or at both ends is at fault:

For IPX based games like X-Wing, you should enable UDP 213 at both ends:

The last link included X-Wing config info. If you still have problems though ...
Call the tech support for that unit, and ask them to either setup a "DMZ"
(De-Militarized Zone which means the firewall is disabled) to bypass the
built-in firewall, or open the necessary ports in the equipment with you.

Here's the List of all Ports used by Zone
and DX Games: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/PortRoute.html#ports

To setup your router yourself visit: www.portforward.com/routers.htm

Have you opened the correct ports in your firewall(s)... and if one of you
(or both) has a router, the correct ports in the router?

Exactly! :-) As previously stated...
