To whom ever it may concern (or someone who can help),

Any proposals for running X-COM: Apocalypse with Win XP?

Thank You for Your patience

Try getting an SB16 emulator. They can be found at
http://ntvdm.cjb.net. They usually solve the problem of
no EMS momeory that we often experience with WinXP.

Hope this helps,

P.S. Great choice in games!!! =P

Hi Nick,

No, the VDMSound emulator did not hack it. The purchased
product includes some Win95 features and they will not
run either? Have an onboard Midi I/O with which I have
emulated sound with DOS programs - disabled it - no
change! Installed the obsolete program in Win95
compatability mode, maybe I shouldn't have?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to say that I'm not sure about what to do next.
I played XCOM on my parents WinME system, and I was able
to solve most of the problems, but I haven't tried it
myself. I think you did the right thing though, by
installing it under Win95 compatibilty mode.

It's a shame that Microsoft has been gradually removing
DOS support. My friend and I make music, and we started
doing it with Impulse Tracker, a DOS based program. Sure
there are more fancy looking programs out there for
trackers, but the fact that they produce the exact same
music is beyond me. KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Microsoft obviously hasn't been doing this...

There was a remake on the XCOM series that made it natively 32. I
know it included The first and second game, and I think it also
included Apocalypse, although I'm not certain. I'm pretty sure I only
paid $10 for it.

Remark,

Exactly, X-COM: Collectors Edition $5,0 comprising UFO
defense, Terror from the Dip, Apocalypse and, Interceptor.

Only Interceptor runs smoothly in Win95 mode (and even
without), UFO Defense and Terror from the Dip run if all
hardware accelerators are turned off, including Direct
Draw, 3D, and all that bullocks.

The only f...... game that blatantly refuse to run is
Apocalypse - no matter how I have tried (even DosBox).

Gracefully Yours
