I would like to make a bar chart to cover monthly values
for a span of many years. But how do I include both the
month and the year on the axis labels? Is it possible to
have major axis ticks labelling each year, and minor ones
labelling each month?

Also, I'd like to make one chart that would print out on
many sheets, each containing a few years' data.

Any help will be appreciated!

I'm sure your post makes very good sense to you, but I am rather lost.
Maybe, you can share a sample of the data and how you would like it to
look on the chart.

And, as far as the 2nd paragraph goes, you might want to check the
Dynamic Charts page of my web site.

Eileen,

Funny I'm tyring to format a chart that would put both week numbers and months on the X-Axis. Here's what I did: Create two columns in your spreadsheet one for weeks and one for months Similar to this:

A B
1 Month Week
2 Jan 1
3 2
4 3
5 4
6 5
7 February 6
8 7
9 8
10 9
11 March 10
12 11
13 12
14 13

In the Source Data window enter ='work sheet name'!$a$1:$b14. Both months and weeks will appear as the x axis lables. Only enter the month once (or in your case the year) or it will appear as many times as you enter it. You may have to play with it a little to get the weeks or months on top but it should work.
