X-axis vals corresponding to column width

Hello,
I am trying to create a bar chart (w/ the bars as columns) where I ca
plot data on both the x and y axes. I want to the widths of th
columns to correspond to the x-axis values. So I will end up with
graph of continuous columns (no space in between them) of varyin
heights.

For example, the x axis values will be costs, and each column will be
project cost included in the overall budget.

Any ideas? Thank you!
