wupdater error

When I stop or restart Windows XP I receive an error that
the program wupdater cannot stop, and an option to end the
program manually. I believe wupdater is the automatic
program to check for windows updates. What would make it
start to have this problem? Thank you.
 
Wupdater is adware, which you unwittingly installed on your computer. You
need to be very cautious about what you agree to while on the Internet. For
now, you need to remove the adware. One popular program for this (and there
are many) is Ad-aware, by Lavasoft. Find it here: www.lavasoftusa.com.

Spyware that can be found in C:\Program Files\Common

files\updater\wupdater.exe.

if you run msconfig and have a look at the location of
the file its in program files\common files... you can
remove the file from there...
open regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Run

and remove the wupdater reference...
