wuauclt in ie7

"wuauclt.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I've been getting this message countless times a session while browsing IE7
in XP.
I've turned off updates (& back on again), done ad-aware checks etc.
Surely i'm not alone!
Please help

I was getting errors useing IE7 so I just went back to IE6. I also use the
Firefox internet browser more. It sounds like it has got infected by a
trojan. Google the file name and some ideas to fix the problem will come up.

You said that you turned off Windows Auto updates, but did you disable
notification of (critical) updates only? Try disabling the "Automatic
Updates" and
"Background Intelligent Transfer" services in Administrative Tools|Services.
Restart your computer and see if that helps at all. I suspect that it may
eliminate this error message from displaying.
