Although that's true, they are relatively rare, and it should be
the responsibility of the person asking the question to ensure
that he's asking in the right newsgroup. If he gets the wrong
answer because he asked in the wrong place, it's his own fault.
In fact we all, including you, answer questions in the XP
newsgroups all the time, without stopping to ask the OP whether
he's running XP. Doing it any other way would be clumsy and
unwieldy.
Despite the advice you frequently see not to make assumptions,
assumptions are a necessity in life. If you have to stop to
question everything, nothing would ever get done.
