I have created a Win2K server with Software Update
Services and am now trying to install the client
(WUAU22.MSI) on my Win2K Pro workstation. It tells me that
I need Win2K w/SP 2 or XP. My system has SP4 with all
current updates installed. When I looked at the
Documentation for SUS it talks about a registry entry that
when I look for it, is not there. I assumed that
installing SP4 that it would be there. What am I doing
wrong. I have tried this on several other boxes with the
same result.

Chris,

WUAU22.msi is for Win2000-SP2 & WinXP-noSP as it says. The Automatic Update
client is already included in Win2000-SP3+ / WinXP-SP1+ / Win2003, no
separate client installation is required.

The registry settings needed to control the Automatic Update services (as
per the deployment guide) need to be added, either via Group Policy or
manually editing the registry.

Scott

I revisited the install docs and figured out that I needed
to go through GPEDIT.MSC on the machines that were SP3 or
higher. We are still on NT4.0 domain here but this gives
one more reason to convert to active directory. Otherwise
I will need to touch every machine to get the clients
working properly.
