Whenever MSAS starts, windows installer starts asking for
the location of WTR.msi, pointing to ...\local
settings\temp as the default. Anyone have any idea why it
wants WTR.msi, and what is that anyway?

I don't know what it is.

Here's something which should eliminate this occurrence, though:

download the Microsoft Installer cleanup application from:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Install it and run it and see if you can spot an item which corresponds to
"WTR.MSI"

If you can, use the application to clean the leftover installer entries
related to that product. This should eliminate this popping up when you run
Microsoft Antispyware.

I'd uninstall the cleanup app afterwards--it isn't necessary for normal
operation, and probably adds needless clutter to your system.

WTR.msi Fix

WTR.msi is Microsoft Installer File for Windows Trace Remover. Most likely you installed or tried to install Windows Trace Remover without success (e.g. computer or program crashed). Thus, each time you run another install program or sometimes *.exe files, windows will ask you to finish that install.

Your solution would be to reinstall or uninstall the program -- if this does not work then follow the link above and install Windows Install Clean-Up. Run program and then select Windows Trace Remover from the list and Click Remove. You will see msdos/command prompt with registry text flying by -- once you are done it would be best to just install the Windows Install Cleanup Utility unless you are an advanced user (it can potentially harm your system).

Good Luck
