Unable to find the older version of Avast, ver. 4.1. Google links default to the
new ver. 4.5

Anyone have a link to (for sure) ver. 4.1? It should show about 7.3 MB file.

Why use antivirus that you cannot update?

Tried filemirrors.com? (though as Andrew mentioned, it's gonna be pretty
useless as it can't be updated anymore)

Can't update? Where did you see that....

Another one of those programs that forces you to use the larger, more invasive
version?

In an earlier thread on AVG, someone mentioned that Avast 4.1 worked fine, thay
had problems with 4.5, someone else that 4.5 bogged down on their 233 computer, I
have a 166. If 4.1 is now useless, I will try 4.5 and see.

ClamWin is N/A for me, ran once and never again, the SourceForge ClamWin forum is
dead.

Thanks, Mark. That's it. I need to find out if it is truly obsolete and can't get
virus updates.

Why not try AntiVir? I use it on my 233MHz Pentium with 128MB RAM and on
a 133MHz Pentium with 28MB RAM.

Yes, it ran fine on my P166, but it does not scan just a folder. A friend
confirmed this on his computer. If you find it does, where do you see it?

I right-click on the folder, using Windows Explorer, and there's a scan
option there.

Thanks for the above. I reinstalled, now have windows shell integration, and can
scan a folder.

There are 2 issues I have with AntiVir, one is 12 (good ?) files that it found
before as positives, I will check the online virus checker to see if they are
real. The other is it seems to scan pretty slow.

But it works. ClanWin was a surprise, the exe file only ran once, after install,
never again.

ISTR that AntiVir's on-demand scanner does not scan inside ZIP files
(which the main AntiVir scanner will do).

I use Antivir on demand. When I use the context menu shortcut on a folder, it
scans the zip files OK, no error messages.
