Hi!

I'm installing XP Pro on a Compaq 8840SE with a 250GB
Ultra-DMA hard drive. XP installation reports a hard drive
131GB of hard drive space.

How do I get XP to detect the 250GB drive?

Hans

When asked, Enable Large Disk Support? Y/N
Enter Y, Repartition & Reformat drive.

250G ????

MAN, that's a LOT of space...... (!)

DOn't know that I would even know what to do with that much space.... :-)

Update the BIOS

Or use two or more partitions, which is a good idea anyway.
C: at 25 GB for the OS and applications
D: for data (My Documents can be moved as can all other
personal files, also put a download folder here) and E: for
multi-media. You pick the sizes you want. Remember you
need to allow about 15-25% extra space so defrag and other
programs can run properly.

I think that those big HDD's are a joke, especially when I
started using Word Perfect, and Lotus 123 with 2 5 1/4
floppies. Also watch someone jump in and say to
partition the drive. If a drive goes bad it is bad no
matter how many partitions are on the drive. If one
needs that much space the best bet is a controller RAID
Array or daisy chain several drives.
