Wrong day and time every day

The clock in BIOS is showing right: day, month, year and time
Still when I start the computer every day it starts at the 31 december 2000 at time 23.00
When I correct the time, close the computer and restart it, it shows the rigth time
After midnight it goes back to the 31 december 2000 at time 23.00
Whats the problem?

I don't quite understand...I would say its a dead battery. But the time
should not change around while the computer is running but maybe that isn't
what you mean.

Thank you for the answer.
No the computer is not a Dell.
It is a Fujitsu/siemens.

I take it that the clock then continues at the right sort of rate until
you shut down? If so it is not the matter for Kelly's fix. The battery
on the motherboard that keeps the clock running when power is off has
run down, and must be replaced. When you shut down and restart, the
power is not cut off, so the clock in BIOS keeps going over that, but
not overnight with no power
