Hi
Well , I have some games that seem to change files on my pc , since the
warning came up , that "some files that are needed by windows are changed ,
please put in your windows xp home edition cd , so windows can repair the
files."
This has happened a few times now , after a game install or after a program
install , the programs or games might be old or new , sometimes this little
window comes up , asking me to put the windows cd in the drive.
If I run windows file protection , the question comes up also.
But windows keeps on saying it is not the right cd !!
( while it is sureley the right one) ( ie. windows xp home edition sp2)
Id did in fact asked me one time (wrongly) for windows xp professional !!
So now I cannot let windows repair the "changed"files , since windows does
not recognise its own real cd ....
I know in the past it had happened to windows NT2000 , but the solution
there I cannot find inside windows xp...
Thanks for response Paul
There are several versions of Windows XP Home Edition. To begin with,
the major division is "retail" versus "OEM". On the "OEM" side, there
are "branded" versions (e.g., Dell, Compaq, HP, etc.) and "generic"
versions for installation of new computers only. And also from the
OEM's, there are full versions of Windows XP with all of the files and
"recovery disc" versions of XP.
One needs to know what version of Windows XP Home Edition cdrom one
has as well as the actual version that is loaded into the computer when
buying from a computer shop, dealer or major manufacturer.
And, hopefully, if the computer had recently been serviced by a shop,
the version of Windows XP that corresponds to the original purchase.
In other words, it is no good if the shop Windows XP Pro whilst the
owner just has Windows XP Home Edition, as an example of one of the
possible variations.
Do some checking and post back.
