i just swaped my DVD+RW drive from one computer which had an DVD driv
paired with the writer to another which does not have a DVD drive (onl
a CD drive) and now whenever i try to write a CD or DVD i get th
following error:

"Writing error:(3)Error occurred writing data to disc. Comunicatio
with drive unit failed (1003)
Error sensedata:SENSE KEY: 4ASC:8ASCQ:3"

might the solution be to pair it with the origional drive it was wit
or is there something horrificaly wrong with my motherboard

What burning software are you using for CD/DVD? Has it been updated to the
latest version? The drive you swapped, did it come with a burning app?

A few things to check, on the PC that the DVD is not working:

1) Replace the IDE cable with a 80 wire/40 pin Ultra DMA IDE cable.
2) Make sure that the IDE connectors are corrrectly oriented (Pin 1 of
drive is to Pin 1 of cable) and correct seated in the IDE sockets
3) Check for the motherboard chipset drivers and install/update them.
These should normally have IDE UltraDMA drivers.
4) Install/update DVD writing software. XP does not handle DVD natively.
5) Check for DVD drive firmware updates (NOTE: This is not the same as XP
driver version number)
6) Check and make sure that both drives are set to Master or Slave,
depending on the jumper. Can not mix two Master/Slave drives together or
one CS driver with a Master/Slave.
7) Clean out temporary files.
8) Defrag may help, sometimes.
9) Check with different makes of media disks. Not all are created with
equal quality.
