I receive a pop up error message saying that it is "WRITE PROTECTED" access
denied. This happens even if I am deleteing what's on a new blank floppy. I
also tried to rip songs from my collection and get the same message. OS is XP
Pro SP2. I have a Tiger Woods game that freezes the computer up. This started
happening about two weeks ago and is getting quite annoying. PLEASE HELP!!! :)

I JUST put in a blank floppy to check if it will erase. I couldn't erase my
cds or dvds so I tried a floppy that was used and it didn't erase either.

Besides that why worry about the floppy. It was just to see. I still can't
erase thing without the popup.

You can't erase what isn't there.....
Make sure teh disk isn't write-protected: in the case of floppy disks, it
has a tab thing that slides open and closed; move it to the closed position
to enable the disk for "writing".

Erasing floppy's and CD's are 2 entirely different tasks and completely
unrelated.
Ripping songs is the act of taking them from an existing audio CD and moving
them to your computer, usually in MP3 or WMA format, no erasing is involved.
Perhaps you should start from the beginning and provide a better description
of the actual problem. Are you trying to format a CDR or CDRW disk? what
application are you trying to do it with? Did it ever work? Have you tried a
system restore to a point when it worked?

If the cdrw has stuff on it, why would I be trying to format it? I am using
either Nero 7 or Windows Media Player. The erasing was no problem the last
time I erased my hard drive and started over.

So why say that you couldn't erase a CD so you put in a floppy to see if you
could erase that? the two operations are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

As I said, start over from the beginning and very carefully describe what
you are trying to accomplish and the problem your having, the info you have
provided after the original question is not clearing up things for us. See
the links in my signature for help on how to create a good post.

Okay, but the butt of the problem is and lets look beyond what I was saying
before and let
tell you that I am still getting a popup window that say it is write
protected no matter what it is.
So what I am saying is that I am getting this message no matter what I am
trying to erase or rip media to a CD/RW or a DVD/RW or a floopy. I am looking
for best response to resolve this problem so that I can continue on using my
computer.

Thanks
