My windows xp machine keeps giving me a write protected
error when I try to save something to a floppy disk. I
know the floppy isn't write protected because I can put it
in other floppy drives and it will save. What is the
problem? And how can I fix
it? Thanks, clinton

Your statement 'I can put it in other floppy drives and it will save'
doesn't make any sense. Write protected means you cannot wite on the
disc because it is protected. 'And it will save' infers reading. (You
can read any write protected disckette). Did you check the little slide
switch on the bottom corner of the diskette?

Huh???

Anyway, it could be a bad floppy drive.

I misinterpreted ---sorry. I was thinking or had in mind saving the info
on the disc to the hard drive. Shame on me. I stand corrected and
apologize.

Sorry for the misinterpretation. Try formatting the diskette on the
same drive first to determine if it is a possible head alignment
problem. If it saves after formatting it is most likely a difference in
head alignment. A few years ago there was a floppy disk driver that did
not allow enough time for the head to settle down after a seek and
caused this very problem.
